5 Tips for a Successful Internship and Study in USA Experience

International students who choose to study in USA should take up an internship program. Why do you ask? According to a recent survey, 66.7% of employers offered their interns full-time positions within their companies. That means you have the chance to get a full-time job in the USA after graduation. Even though it is still subject to visa requirements, the possibility is still there and you shouldn’t pass it up. So how do you go about having a successful internship in US experience? Here are five practical tips to make your internship worth your time:

Tip No 1: Attitude is the key. Employers look for new employees that have a positive impact on the workplace. If you think about it, the people you most enjoy spending time with in your personal life are those who add joy and enthusiasm to situations. The same goes with the corporate world. Employers are on the lookout for perky individuals who have refreshing personalities. If you know you have these characteristics, but you are having a difficult time conveying it in an interview, then having an internship can showcase your positive personality.

Tip No 2: Be flexible. It is important for you to become flexible and willing to accept tasks at any level. Do not be a slave to your job description. Give it all you’ve got and be adventurous during your internship. Go above and beyond your call of duty and impress your boss with what you can do. Take on daunting tasks and show them what you are made of.

Tip No 3: Be Proactive. Use every opportunity you can get to prove your work ethic. Take the initiative and don’t let boredom put you down. Even the most menial tasks should be handled with enthusiasm and vigour. Let them see that you are happy with the internship, which will make a good impression.

Tip No 4: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It is said that asking questions means you care about what you’re doing. So don’t let your fear stop you from asking relevant questions. Ask the questions that will truly supplement your learning and add value to your internship experience.

Tip No 5: Be realistic and authentic. Internships aren’t always about glitz and glamour, so be practical and lower your expectations before you start the program. There will be moments that you want to take control of a situation, but bear in mind that you are there to learn. So have an open mind while you intern for a company.
